“Meet the Healers” Journeys

Up close conversations with Traditional Medicine Practitioners in Northern Thailand

If you want to learn more about traditional medicine in Thailand and how it is practiced today, come join us on a unique cultural adventure.

Over the course of these journeys we visit independent traditional healers whose life work is providing healing in their local communities.  These highly respected master healers have been quietly teaching and practicing Lanna and Hilltribe medicine for decades, and their therapies and techniques are thousands of years old.

The focus is on learning through chatting informally with Traditional Healers and experiencing their healing environs.  It is a chance to actually meet them, up close, and connect with them as individuals.

Jan, Student of Doctor Nuan, Practicing Yamkang (Hot Foot)

The healers answer your questions about the history of their practices and their philosophies of healing, health, disease and whatever traditional topics you would like to discuss with them.  Additionally, we observe hands-on demonstrations and spend time in their unique healing environments. Probing (and polite) questions are welcomed and encouraged...

This is a rare opportunity to learn about centuries-old healing modalities such as moxabustion, medicinal herbs, bone healing, fertility therapies and midwifery, meridian energy clearing, shamanism and karmic spirit channeling, as well as 6 different therapeutic massages including abdominal, kar sai (groin), dtung sen (tendon plucking), acupressure, yum kang (hot foot), and tok sen (mallet and stick).

For the 2 Day Herbal, 5 and 8 day Journeys, we also relax in a wood-fired herbal steam room on the grounds of a serene remote Buddhist Wat where unique medicinal remedies are prepared.  For the 5 and 8 day Journeys, we lie on energizing beds in a Buddhist meditation center where the presiding Abbot was spiritually guided to build pyramids uniquely designed for healing.

These trips are designed for people who are interested in deepening and broadening their knowledge of traditional medicine through discussion and demonstration.  You are welcome to return at a later time for private healing treatments after your Journey is complete. Previous knowledge of some healing arts or meditation is helpful, but not necessary.

These Journeys are limited to a maximum of 8 participants.

What do people say about these Journeys? This unique experience receives high praise from all involved.  The healers appreciate our sincere interest in their life's work and passion.  Participants gain a deeper understanding of Traditional Thai medicine, with its rich traditions and beliefs.
“The tour was just great!  We moved from personal home clinics and Wats to a very rural hill tribe village; from physical to spiritual to other worldly spaces.”
- Felicity J., Thai Massage Teacher and Practitioner, Australia and Chiangmai   www.thaitraditionalyogamassage.com
“These healers were, without exception, some of the most generous, knowledgeable and dynamic people I've met.  My perception of Chiang Mai and traditional healing has been expanded, and I plan to return both to study and receive much-needed healing from many of these healers.”
- Michelle T., Artist, Chicago USA
“I am still relaxed and changed at a deep level from our week with the healers. It launched me into a state of personal and professional transformation. I am truly grateful.”

- Mary G., Masseur, Chicago USA
